Prof. Dr. Ursula Frohne:
Delay and recurrence.
On the aesthetics of contemplation in Kiarostamis movies
Sunday, January 13, 2013 at 4 pm at Situation Kunst
Figures of repetition and circular courses brand the film language of Abbas Kiarostami. The structures of his narratives are followed by expansive time courses, which create interruptions of timing in today’s perceptual modalities as well as a shift of attention. The lecture focuses on the movies „The Wind will Carry us“ (1999) and „Ten“ (2002) and precisely on motifs of recurrence, whose “aesthetic anachronisms” turns out to be an actual challenge of the present age.
Prof. Dr. Ursula Frohne is a professor of General Art History at the Institute of Art History of the University of Cologne.
The event will be moderated by Prof. Dr. Oliver Fahle, Institute of Media Science, Ruhr University of Bochum.
