PHOTOGRAPHS OF TWO COUNTRIES BY
RUDOLF HOLTAPPEL AND THOMAS KLÄBER

From January 15 to May 1, 2011 the KUBUS of Situation Kunst will host photographs by  Rudolf Holtappel and Thomas Kläber. Topic of the exhibition are two photographic positions linked to two different German regions that are documented with participating observation. While the photographs of Rudolf Holtappel show aspects of life in the Ruhr area from the 1950s to the 1970s, trace the pictures of Thomas Kläber from the 10970s to the 1990s displaying mainly everyday life in the country area of Südbrandenburg (South Brandenburg) in the former German Democratic Republic.

In addition to the exhibition „Weltsichten. Landschaft in der Kunst seit dem 17. Jahrhundert“ (Worldviews. Landscapes in art since the 17th century) held at the KUBUS from May until November 2010, which 2nd part has had its focus on photography und videoart, this exhibition covers the work of two photographers reflecting their own environment with an empathic and unique view through the camera lens. The people in the photographs – miners, farmers, pigeon breeders, bar visitors or even elegantly dressed women at the fitting rooms in warehouses – are displayed undisguised, at times underlined with a silent humour, yet each with own uniqueness, still keep the individual dignity that has been created by the intimate bond of the photographer with the photographed environment.
