Abbas Kiarostami

Images, Still and Moving

October 10th, 2012 - January 20th, 2013

Abbas Kiarostami, born 1940 in Teheran, is mainly known as a filmmaker. Besides his films, he has also been creating a very focused photographic œuvre since the 1970s, yet hardly presented at exhibitions in Germany. Using the very own methods of film and photography, Kiarostami interrogates the options and modalities of vision, specifically the relation to the reality taking place in the process of vision. Cinematic and photographic vision correspond closely with each other, but also generate individual forms of images.

The exhibition involves photography and video-installations.

Furthermore, the exhibition will continue at the Museum Wiesbaden (March 11 till June 30, 2013) and Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz (Juli 14 till September 29, 2013).

A catalogue published by Hatje Cantz accompanies the exhibition.

In collaboration with the der professorship for Science of Movies at the institute of Media Science of the Ruhr University Bochum, there will be a public workshop focusing on the cinematic and photographic works of Abbas Kiarostami on November 8th/9th 2012.

The exhibition is supported by the Förderverein Situation Kunst - Haus Weitmar e.V.
