Thomas Struth

AT THE KUBUS OF SITUATION KUNST

December 2nd, 2010 till April 10th, 2011

The picture language of photographer Thomas Struth is based on the intensive examination of the media theory writings by Walther Benjamin as well as the psychology of gestalt and phenomenology. Not only are the questions of reality of objectified photography vital for his photographic position; he refers to Minimal and Conceptual Art and interrogates, how photographs  are perceived.

Thomas Struth at the KUBUS of Situation Kunst allows an exceptual contextualization of this question. Space-related presentations are significant for the ensemble of Situation Kunst (für Max Imdahl).  This environment touches one of Struths work essential specifics as the artist interest is on interaction between photographs and installed concellations.

The exhibition is the result of a project focusing on museum reflexiveness, which has been developed by Frederike Wappler and  Art History students of the Ruhr University of Bochum in collaboration with Thomas Struth himself.

Exhibition is held on the 1st floor of the KUBUS
